Moving Prep & Decluttering Services in Austin, TX

Only Move What Belongs in Your Next Chapter

Most families dramatically underestimate how much work goes into preparing for a move. The boxes, the decisions, the things you've been meaning to deal with for years — it all surfaces at once, right when your schedule is already stretched thin.

Habitual Home Organizing offers professional moving prep services for families in Austin, TX and surrounding areas including Westlake, Tarrytown, Barton Creek, Lakeway, and Bee Cave. We work with you before moving day to declutter with intention, simplify your load, and make sure everything that leaves your home is something worth bringing with you.

The result is a move that costs less, feels lighter, and sets you up for a home that actually works from day one.

What Moving Prep With Us Looks Like

Pre-Move Decluttering Session

We work through your home room by room — sorting, editing, and helping you make confident decisions about what stays and what goes. No pressure, no judgment. Just a clear, honest process that gives you permission to let go of what no longer serves you. Donations are organized for drop-off or pickup. Junk haul coordination is available. Every decision is yours — we simply make them easier.

Intentional Packing

Once your home has been decluttered with us, we offer professional packing as a continuation of your moving prep. Every item is packed with care, labeled clearly, and organized by room so your movers know exactly where everything goes — saving you time, money, and chaos on moving day. Please note: packing services are exclusively available to clients who complete a decluttering session with Habitual Home Organizing first. We believe in moving only what you love and packing is the natural next step in that process.

Move Coordination & Oversight

We can assist with reviewing moving estimates, coordinating logistics, and being present on move day to oversee the process. So nothing gets lost, damaged, or left behind.

How Far in Advance Should You Start?

This is one of the most common questions we hear — and the honest answer is: earlier than you think. For most families, we recommend starting the decluttering process 6 to 8 weeks before your move date.

Here's a general timeline:

6–8 Weeks Out — Whole-home edit and declutter. This is where we start. Working room by room, we help you make decisions about furniture, clothing, kitchenware, toys, and anything that's been waiting for a "someday" that never came.

3–4 Weeks Out — Non-essentials packed and staged. Seasonal items, books, decor, and anything you won't need before the move gets packed, labeled, and ready.

1–2 Weeks Out — Final packing of everyday items. Kitchen, closets, and day-to-day essentials are packed last so your life keeps running smoothly right up until moving day.

Move Day — We're available to oversee the process so nothing falls through the cracks.

Not sure where to start? We map out a realistic timeline with you during your free consultation.
